Sign stealing? Accusations against Michigan just normal part of life in NFL
Justin Rogers
The Detroit News
Allen Park — While the NFL has had its own history of spying controversies, the NCAA's investigation into whether the University of Michigan is stealing signs wouldn't be an issue at the professional level, since opposing scouts are permitted to attend games of future opponents and often have a seat reserved in the press box for this role.
And with one offensive and defensive player permitted to wear a headset to communicate with the sideline in the NFL, the threat of stealing signs isn't the same kind of concern as it is in college.
Still, there's plenty of gamesmanship that goes on between pro teams, both in an effort to glean any bit of play-call language that could provide an upper hand, as well as the guarding against it through misdirection.
“Yeah, we all look at that," Lions coach Dan Campbell explained. "We have a number of guys that look at TV copies and everything else, just like they do. They’re doing the same; every team’s doing it. (You) see if you can pick up any little nugget, code words, quarterback says something, linebacker’s making a call, O-line, D-line. Any nugget you feel like you can pick up, you would like to use, but there again, you’ll always sprinkle in on both sides of the ball dummy calls, and that’s part of it."
Teams aren't able to overhaul their play-call verbiage weekly, so the inclusion of dummy calls, particularly for audibles, is one of the best tools to keep an opponent off balance.
"I think everybody’s looking for any advantage they can get, so you just have to have enough dummy signals and dummy audibles and things of that nature to where you keep them honest, they don’t entirely know what’s coming. ... Not everything, but enough to where if we feel like somebody’s getting a beat on us, we will, on both sides of the ball."

It’s crazy to think Miami will be getting tougher soon with Jalen Ramsey coming back from injury. That team will be tough to beat come playoff timeLast edited by jaadam4; October 22, 2023, 10:29 AM.F#*K OHIO!!!

People scoff at the Lions wins but when the games were played, Atlanta was 2-0, GB was 2-1, TB was 3-1, and KC had just won the Super Bowl. And then 0-4 Carolina."Yeah, we just... we don't want them to go. So that's our motivation."

Ok, Lions. Can you smartly do something similar for an outside CB please?
This trade has the makings of turning a potential weakness into a strength, provided no one goes down (like what has happened to our team.)"I hope to see the Lions in the Super Bowl before I die"
