  • ZACH WILSONQB, NEW YORK JETS
zw The Athletic's Jeff Howe writes the Jets don't "intend" to trade Zach Wilson as "there’s hope he can develop while learning more in a backup capacity."

The Jets are committed to acquiring a big name at the position this year for Wilson to backup, with Howe listing Aaron Rodgers, Jimmy Garoppolo, and Derek Carr as "names to watch." Frankly it would make no sense for the Jets to shop Wilson even if they wanted him off the roster, so it's not all that surprising that this made it out there. The 2021 No. 2 overall pick has not shown anything in two seasons and will need to be rebuilt from the ground up if he's going to be a starter in the NFL.

    • DONOVAN SMITHT, TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS
Donovan Smith Tampa Bay Times' Rick Stroud believes OT Donovan Smith could be a cap casualty this offseason for the Buccaneers.

The Bucs are in dire straits against the cap, currently $55 million over before they resolve the Tom Brady retirement. It's possible that they push some of it into 2024, which would bring the cap number down to a more manageable number. Smith did not play well last season while playing through an elbow hyperextension, and Stroud notes that the team could move Tristan Wirfs to left tackle. Cutting Smith would free up $9.95 million, and cutting him with a June 1 designation could free up $15.25 million. He's by far the easiest of Tampa's big-salary players to move on from.

      • Would be a great replacement for Chark. IF there's enough cap after everything else that needs to be done.

        KEENAN ALLENWR, LOS ANGELES CHARGERS
Keenan Allen The Athletic's Daniel Popper lists Keenan Allen as one of the "most likely" cuts for the Chargers this offseason.

Allen would save $14.8 million in cap space if released, which is huge for a team that currently looks to be $23.43 million over the cap. It's still a bit of a surprise even after Allen missed a large portion of this season with hamstring issues, as his play hasn't slowed down much. But the Chargers don't appear to have a slew of options after their offseason spending spree in 2022, and may need to attack a few of the bigger figures on their roster. It's also plausible that Allen could be asked to take a pay cut. Off a 66/752/4 season in just 10 games, a few of which he was clearly still playing hurt in, Allen would be a popular free agent if he makes it to the market.

Yeah he's awesome. GTFO here with any thoughts about Zach Wilson.

First time in a while, I am feeling like... Fuck! no QB in the first 4 rounds. If the QB (Goff) goes down... season over. Like most every team (except maybve the West Coast John Lynches). All the hand wringing about a backup QB..... I think it was Forsch who said he didn't know what I was proposing...... I just think we should draft defense & skill players, consider QB settled for 1 - 2 years, and let's go! At some point we have to stop chasing the QB Jesus don't we?

To an extent, yes. But at the same time, this IS a QB dominated league, so if you see the next great thing, and you're sure this guy IS "the guy," you gotta shoot your shot.

              • If some amazing quarterback dropped to 6, you take him, but the only one that I would look at is Stroud. Even then his celing seems to be where Goff is right now. I just think Bryce Young is too small.

Most of the arguments about drafting a quarterback is they theoretically won't be drafting this high again for a while. That may be true, but it doesn't turn any of these quarterbacks into Trevor Lawrence or Justin Herbert.

If you see "your guy," you're going to be able to get him, regardless of your record. Are one of these guys this year the one? I have no idea. I will say I think Stroud's ceiling is higher than Goff's, though. He already has better arm strength than Goff, he doesn't quite have Goff's touch (yet) and he can move (he just rarely did in college because he wanted everyone to know he was a pocket passer first... ya know, like you constantly say a QB should be).

My big question mark with Stroud is that his throwing motion seems to have some wind-up to it. He can do quick releases, but he didn't seem to like doing so, and that longer throwing motion he preferred to do would get him in trouble with NFL-caliber EDGE rushers.

Wasn't that the knock on Tom Brady when he slid to the 6th round?

Brady is 6'4". That's damn near the ideal height for a QB.

The major knock on Tom Brady was that he couldn't even secure the starter job in college, so how good could he possibly be?

                      • BRIAN FLORESDC, MINNESOTA VIKINGS
Flores ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Vikings are hiring Steelers linebackers coach Brian Flores as their defensive coordinator.

The timing on this is odd, as Flores was recently named a finalist for the Cardinals' head coaching job just a day earlier. Nevertheless, the former Dolphins head coach will now take on the task of turning around a Vikings defense that ranked 31st in passing yards allowed per game (265.6) and 26th in passing DVOA (14.2%). A coach long-known for his defensive mind, Flores has surprisingly never held a defensive coordinator role but served as a defensive assistant, safeties coach, and linebackers coach with the Patriots from 2011-2018. Flores had several potential suitors this offseason, and could quickly find himself in the market for a head coaching gig next offseason.

Pro Bowl games is here to stay. It will never die.

The NFL’s shift from two-hand touch football in full pads to flag football has generated a sufficiently large TV audience to justify a continuation.

Via SportsMediaWatch.com, ESPN generated a total audience of 6.28 million for Sunday’s activities, televised primarily by ABC and ESPN.

That’s down from 6.7 million last year, but up from the “virtual” Madden-style Pro Bowl of 5.96 million.

The NFL’s all-star flag-football game won the weekend, beating NASCAR’s race at the Los Angeles Coliseum (3.65 million) the NHL All-Star Game on ABC (1.5 million).

So, no, the Pro Bowl games are going nowhere. From more than six million viewers to a full stadium of fans, it will definitely be back in 2024.

I turned it on for a minute. I watched the catch competition and during the whole damn thing, all I could think of was the fucking Sun God was going to blow out a knee coming off of the trampoline and landing on those pads

I did find it pretty funny when the announcer asked Pete Davidson, "why are you so low" after he posted a score, and he and Snoop just about lost it.
