  • Payton got a huge chunk of change to go coach the Broncos and he wants to coach. Nothing more complicated than that. The deep pockets that ownership group has is also enticing. He could have waited for the Charger job to open up, but that ownership group is cheaper than anyone else.

I cant imagine anyone ever topping his legacy in my lifetime. To have the best QB ever to play and the best psycho coach genius of all time together is damned near impossible considering how brutal football is
I wouldn't say he was the best QB to play, but certainly the most decorated in the modern era.
Otto Graham took his team to 9 Title games in 9 years (won 6 titles). Of the 3 they lost, two of them were to the eventual champion - Detroit Lions.....
And all of that was before the Jim Brown era.

        • Is this being discussed somewhere in a different thread? I watched whatever the hell that was on ESPN last night related to the Pro Bowl. The QB challenge was kind of cool and I thought Goff did really well, but then....Sewell throwing a water balloon at Ragnow? That's a thing? Amon-Ra catching passes as he jumps into a pool? This was not what I expected for a "Skills Showdown."

I'm glad they had fun at least. 🤷‍♀️

Well, at least they got you to watch.
Trickalicious - I don't think it is fair that the division rivals get to play the Lions twice. The Lions NEVER get to play the Lions, let alone twice.

                • Every person on sports radio wants the Pro Bowl to end, but the puzzle is people time in for it. It is really highly rated. I'm not sure how this new format is going to draw.

I think fans like the idea of the Pro Bowl, in rather the same way that they like the "old days" of MLB's All-Star Game. Then when the actual game happens, and it's not played with the same urgency and reckless abandon of a playoff game or the "good ol' days" they think they remember, they get angry about it.

For example, they love to wax poetic about Pete Rose running over Ray Fosse to win the 1970 All Star Game... neglecting to remember that the players involved were livid that it happened and that it almost sparked a damn brawl over what they thought was a borderline dirty play during an exhibition game.

                    • Its a good sports talk radio topic to be sure, lots of old boomers love to call up and talk about the Ray Fosse play.

                      • Fosse was doing what he's supposed to do - block the plate. And he was blocking it like a truck.
The runner was doing what he's supposed to do - run through the block. And he ran through the truck.

Don't expect the runner to give himself up in the bottom of the 12th in a tie game - not going to happen.

I'm dead serious. The guy played his entire career and never missed a Championship game (today's Super Bowl).
Even in that era you are in complete awe - simple math tells you that shouldn't happen.

                            • Babe Ruth was one of the best HR hitters ever but I’d bet the farm he couldn’t have ever hit Justin Verlander
