  • Non throwing shoulder. Good to see him thrive. Always believed in that dude. They need to get him some O-Line and legit #1 WR. His growth has been off the charts. He’s got B-level offensive guys everywhere.

    • I don't know if his growth is off the charts. I have not seen much of him admittedly, but his accuracy and ability to read defenses when throwing seem to be lacking. Granted a poor O line and even worse WRs could be causing that too. I don't know. I said last week after the Lions game this kid was going to get hurt if they kept running him like that, and if he didn't start sliding and going out of bounds. He taking hits for 1-2 extra yards. That was always going to end with injury.

His athleticism seems great. His pocket presence seems great.

What are you talking about? When he had to throw against us last week he was terrible and he didn't do much besides 150 yards a TD and INT in the passing game yesterday. I agree about his OL and #1 WR but unless you're talking about his legs I don't see it. I think Stroud has a much better chance at breaking out than Fields and that Ohio NFL curse.

I do like his moxy and he's definitely got the athletic ability but its his reading defenses and making the throws that will make or break him.

        • Vikings absorb worst home loss in 59 years

Posted by Mike Florio on November 21, 2022, 9:47 AM EST

          USA TODAY Sports

It was a very long day for the Vikings on Sunday. It was their longest day for a home game in a very, very long time.

Via ESPN Stats & Information, the 40-3 splattering at the hands of the Cowboys was the worst home loss for the Vikings since a 56-14 blowout against the then-St. Louis Cardinals on October 6, 1963.

That game was played at Metropolitan Stadium in Bloomington. Sonny Randle had three touchdown catches for the Cardinals. For the Vikings, Fran Tarkenton was nine for 25, gaining only 86 yards.

The Vikings, who were favored to beat the Cardinals that day by 2.5 points, were outgained 520 yards to 218.

On Sunday, the Cowboys had 458 yards. The Vikings had 183.

For Dallas, it was the biggest road victory in franchise history. It came one week after the Cowboys blew their first lead of 14 or more points entering the fourth quarter of a game. Ever.

The Cowboys are now 4-0 at U.S. Bank Stadium, and the Vikings are left searching for answers. Both teams have only three days to do it all again, with Dallas hosting the Giants and the Patriots coming to Minnesota on Thanksgiving.

          • Linval Joseph: Eagles gave me a chance, I want to show the world I’ve still got it

The Eagles added a pair of veteran defensive tackles to their roster last week and both Linval Joseph and Ndamukong Suh had a hand in Sunday’s 17-16 win over the Colts.

The two players split a sack of Colts quarterback Matt Ryan and combined to make seven tackles in their first game action for any team during the 2022 season. After the game, Joseph, who turned 34 last month, said that he felt he “did my job” despite having limited practice time with the team and that he hopes to use the rest of the season as a chance to show the league that he still has a lot left in the tank.

“I’ve been telling people: Age is just a number,” Joseph said, via Mike Sielski of the Philadelphia Inquirer. “Coming off the couch, two surgeries, nobody wanted to give me a chance. They gave me a chance, and I want to go out there and show the world I’ve still got it — doesn’t matter how old I am.”

The Eagles needed all the help they could find in order to outlast the Colts on Sunday and the two new arrivals should get plenty of other chances to show what they can do in the weeks to come.

            • Justin Fields on his injured left shoulder: The pain right now is pretty bad

Justin Fields was not wearing a sling to protect his injured left shoulder after Sunday’s loss to the Falcons, but the Bears and their quarterback don’t know how bad it is yet.

Fields took a cart back to the team’s locker room after the game, receiving an X-ray and IV treatment.

He will undergo an MRI on Monday.

“We will have an update on Wednesday,” coach Matt Eberflus said, via Courtney Cronin of ESPN. “We don’t know what exactly it is. That’s why we are going to take a look at it.”

Fields injured his non-throwing shoulder on the first play of the Bears’ final drive when he landed hard on it on a designed run. He took another hit on it soon after on another running play when Falcons defensive tackle Grady Jarrett hit Fields with his helmet as the quarterback slid.

Fields originally injured his left shoulder Oct. 20 but said this injury is a different one. He is uncertain of his status for next week.

“The pain right now is pretty bad,” Fields said. “I’ll just take it day by day and see how it feels later in the week.”

Fields also received treatment for cramps in his hamstrings but played through it.

“I was hurting but it was the last drive of the game,” Fields said. “I was just trying to be there for my teammates and fight through the pain.”

Justin Fields considered day-to-day, but season-ending injury not ruled out

While there may be some reason for optimism about Justin Fields‘ injured non-throwing shoulder, the quarterback is not out of the woods.

After Fields injured the shoulder on Sunday, Bears head coach Matt Eberflus said Fields is day-to-day. But the way he said it kind of makes that phrase mean a little less.

“Right now, obviously you guys know the injury report comes out Wednesday. And right now, it’s day-to-day,” Eberflus said in his Monday press conference. “We’ll see where he is on Wednesday. So, we’ve got time and we’ll see where it is and we’ll go from there.”

Eberflus was asked in several different ways for a more specific update on Fields but effectively declined to say more than an update will come Wednesday with the injury report.

That is, until he was asked if the team could rule out whether Fields’ injury would end his season.

“We have not ruled that out at this point,” Eberflus said. “We’ll see where it is on Wednesday.”

Fields played every offensive snap in Chicago’s 27-24 loss to Atlanta on Sunday. He completed 14-of-21 passes for 153 yards with a touchdown and an interception. He added 85 yards on 18 carries with a touchdown.

If Fields has to miss time, Trevor Siemain would take over at quarterback. Eberflus said he didn’t think it would take much to make the offense more suited to Siemian’s skillset.

“We would just lean on one side of the offense as opposing to lean on the side that we’ve expanded to, to a certain degree,” Eberflus said. “So, I think that would be a pretty easy transition. Trevor is obviously a very smart individual, a very good passer. Has a great grasp on the offense. He’s been here since Day One. High-functional intelligence. So we’re excited about that guy.”

The Bears play the Jets in Week 12.

Lovie Smith on potential QB change: We need to do some things differently and we will

Texans head coach Lovie Smith said after Sunday’s loss to the Commanders that he wouldn’t “just change to change” in response to questions about what the team would do to change their fortunes after a 1-8-1 start.

Smith sounded a bit more open to shaking things up when he spoke to reporters at a Monday press conference. Smith was asked if he would consider a quarterback change from Davis Mills to Kyle Allen and he replied by noting that the players are not in the facility on Monday so any public discussion of specific changes would wait until he’s spoken with them.

Smith also said that the team needs to make changes as they prepare to face the Dolphins in Week 12.

“You can probably understand that, like all changes and anything we do from week to week, we talk to the players first before we talk to you,” Smith said. “We’re not pleased with where we are. Do we need to do some things differently? Yes, and we will.”

Mills was 19-of-33 for 169 yards and two interceptions while being sacked five times on Sunday.

                  • Broncos waive Melvin Gordon

Posted by Myles Simmons on November 21, 2022, 1:32 PM EST

After another critical fumble, the Broncos have moved on from Melvin Gordon.

Denver announced on Monday that the club has waived Gordon. If a team does not claim Gordon, then he’ll become a free agent.

The Broncos started the season with Gordon and and Javonte Williams as its top two running backs. Williams suffered a season-ending knee injury in the Week Four loss to the Raiders. Gordon has been inconsistent, rushing for 318 yards and a pair of touchdowns this season. He’s also caught 25 passes for 223 yards.

But fumbling haas been a huge problem. Gordon put the ball on the ground five times this season, including once near the goal line in Sunday’s loss to Las Vegas. That apparently proved to be too much for Denver to take.

Latavius Murray was Denver’s leading rusher on Sunday, taking 17 carries for 49 yards. He’ll presumably have the job going forward.

Chase Edmonds and Marlon Mack are also on Denver’s 53-man roster at running back.

At 3-7, the Broncos will take on the 3-8 Panthers in Week 12.

The Giants placed receiver Wan'Dale Robinson on injured reserve Monday, the team announced.

Robinson will miss the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament.

He injured his knee on a 6-yard reception in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s loss to the Lions. It was the best game of his brief career as Robinson caught nine passes for 100 yards.

The Giants made Robinson a second-round selection this spring.

Robinson joins Sterling Shepard as wideouts the Giants have lost to a torn ACL, and in training camp, they lost Collin Johnson to a ruptured Achilles tendon.

Nine different wide receivers have caught passes for the Giants this season.

Robinson ranked third on the team with 23 catches despite missing sitting out four games early in the season with a knee injury.

“We have plenty of receivers on the roster,” Giants coach Brian Daboll said, via Michael Eisen of the team website. “So, it’s a short week. We’ll get the guys ready to go, and we’ll revisit things like we always do each week and see where it goes.”

                          • PFT’s Week 12 2022 NFL power rankings

Posted by Mike Florio on November 22, 2022, 9:16 AM EST

                            1. Chiefs (8-2; No. 2): Football, family, and Fonzie indeed.

                            2. Eagles (9-1; No. 3): They’re still a bit off. To get a win while being a bit off is a good thing.

                            3. Cowboys (7-3; No. 7): The team that showed up on Sunday is a Super Bowl team. All too often, however, that team is on the back of a milk carton.

                            4. Dolphins (7-3; No. 5): They didn’t play, and yet they bumped up a spot. (TuAnon will still find a way to complain.)

                            5. Bills (7-3; No. 9): They overcame a crazy week to get a much-needed win. Could it be the thing that galvanizes them?

                            6. Ravens (7-3; No. 6): They were sluggish and lifeless on Sunday. Fortunately, they were playing the Panthers.

                            7. 49ers (6-4; No. 10): Right now, they could beat any team in the NFC.

                            8. Vikings (8-2; No. 1): When the bubble bursts, it takes out an entire city block.

                            9. Giants (7-3; No. 4): With a game against the Cowboys, two against the Eagles, and two against the Commanders, they may soon be sweating out what once was a presumed playoff berth.

                            10. Patriots (6-4; No. 12): The defense is great. Can the offense be good enough?

                            11. Seahawks (6-4; No. 11): They need to get back on the horse, quickly, or that great start could be wasted.

                            12. Titans (7-3; No. 13): The Todd Downing DUI arrest took the sizzle out of a thrilling Thursday night win.

                            13. Buccaneers (5-5; No. 14): Two years ago, they ran the table after a bye. It could happen again.

                            14. Bengals (6-4; No. 15): Once Ja'Marr Chase is back, things could get very interesting.

                            15. Commanders (6-5; No. 16): With Chase Young back, the Commanders could be ready to leapfrog the Giants on the playoff tree.

                            16. Jets (6-4; No. 8): As Jets fans keep waiting for their next Joe Namath, they may have to settle for Joe Flacco.

                            17. Falcons (5-6; No. 19): They’re good enough to make you think they’re good enough to believe in them long enough to conclude they’re not good enough.

                            18. Chargers (5-5; No. 17): Yes, it’s always something.

                            19. Lions (4-6; No. 24): On Thursday, the Lions could be playing in their most significant Thanksgiving Day game in years.

                            20. Packers (4-7; No. 18): The playoffs start on Sunday night in Philly, because if they lose that one, the Packers won’t make it there.

Nick Bosa: Altitude was brutal, thankful 49ers practiced in Colorado last week

The 49ers spent last week in Colorado Springs so that they could practice at a higher altitude in advance of Monday night’s game in Mexico City.

Estadio Azteca is 7,200 feet above sea level, which is higher than any NFL stadium and defensive end Nick Bosa called it “brutal” to play in the thin air after the 38-10 win over the Cardinals was in the books. Bosa, who had a sack and three quarterback hits, said that things got a bit easier as the game unfolded and that he was thankful that the 49ers opted to take the team to Colorado to prepare for the conditions.

“[49ers owner] John York got the game ball,” Bosa said, via David Brandt of the Associated Press. “For him to put us in that situation and spend the money you have to spend to do something like that is why the Niners are a winning franchise.”

The 49ers won’t have to deal with altitude issues when they face the Saints at home in Week 12 with a chance to stretch their winning streak to four games.

On Sunday against the Falcons, Bears quarterback Justin Fields suffered some sort of injury to his non-throwing shoulder. NFL Media has reported that it’s a dislocation of the shoulder. We’re told otherwise.

Per a source with direct knowledge of the situation, Fields did not suffer a dislocation.

That doesn’t mean he’s fine. He has an injury, and he said after the game that it’s very painful. It’s still not known (at least not publicly) what it is.

Field also had hamstring tightness during Sunday’s loss to the Falcons.

If he can’t play on Sunday, it’ll be Trevor Siemian facing whoever the Jets decide to use. On Monday, coach Robert Saleh wouldn’t commit to Zach Wilson starting the game.
