  • Lol. Frickin Mike Valenti (97.1) making his daily plea for Lions fans to ditch their team because they lost by 3 points. What a group of turds and waste of space. I'm convinced that employment on that show must come with a hate of the Lions. I love when they try to convince everyone listening that they're looking at things withot bias. Yeah right. Dude went on a 2 hr rampage that included praise for the NYG (HIS team) because they won. Dude the other team screwed up more then you did enough to win. And Lions fans are delusional? Ok. And don't get me started with Rico. Who lost me last year because he didn't think HIS team, SF, was terrible because they drafted high. Uh, Rico, they drafted Lance that high because they traded up, numbskull...

Oh yeah. The mighty Giants ...

Brian Daboll wants Giants “turning the page as quick as we can” to facing Panthers

The Giants won their season opener for the first time since the 2016 season, but head coach Brian Daboll doesn’t want his team dwelling on the excitement of the 21-20 victory over the Titans.

Daboll got a lot of adulation for his decision to go for two and take the lead late in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game. There would have been a lot less less cheering if Randy Bullock had made a 47-yard field goal to beat the Giants at the final whistle and that would have left Daboll and the Giants wanting to move on to Week Two as soon as possible.

On Monday, Daboll said “turning the page as quick as we can” to facing the Panthers is still what he wants the team to do.

“I’m happy we won but it’s one game,” Daboll said at his press conference. “If it was the other way around, it’s one game. We got to get ready to go on to the next week. It’s the first week of the regular season so we got a long way to go. You can watch the tape, there’s a lot of corrections that need to be made in this early part of the season and we got to be on top of it. That’s the mindset that we need to make.”

After hosting the Panthers, the Giants will remain at home to face a Cowboys team that’s likely to be without Dak Prescott and the Bears. That should lead to thoughts of a winning streak around the Giants and pulling it off will make it a lot easier to talk about how Daboll is righting the ship in his first year as the head coach.
Trickalicious - I don't think it is fair that the division rivals get to play the Lions twice. The Lions NEVER get to play the Lions, let alone twice.

    • BTW, is there another sports radio station I can listen to in SE michigan? 97.1 is too much of a negative drag.

I've totally given up on 97.1, and only listen to some of the re-broadcasts in podcast form.

          • I haven’t listened in a while but Doug and Gator are usually positive.

Valenti was very frustrating to listen to. He claimed Stafford was incapable of winning. As Stafford kept winning, he kept taking shots. When he beat Tampa on the road, he claimed Brady wasn’t himself even though Brady still lead the team back to a game tying TD drive late in the 4th. When Stafford beat the 49ers, he points to the dropped INT as a gift. Then as it appeared they were going to win, he slammed Lions fans that were cheering for Stafford.

Then in the offseason, he ripped the Lions for not making an effort to acquire Watson. I think Watson is talented but I didn’t think it was worth the hassle. Valenti said the fact that he wasn’t convicted of a crime made it worth the effort. He tried to compare it to LT hiring prostitutes and doing drugs. Watson’s alleged crimes are predatory. There’s a big difference in my opinion.

I heard him rip the Lions for not winning on Sunday. I understand they had the opportunity but Philly is a more talented team and when you consider how badly the Lions lost year to Philly, I think there are reasons for optimism.

I’m not totally sold (because I can never be totally sold) but I like what I’m seeing so far.

I won't be sold until Aaron Glenn gets that front 4 playing like a front 4.
Too many times mobile QB's can just waltz through an over-aggressive defense even though that defense should know they are dealing with a mobile QB.....
I give less than a fuck about the offense - if you can't hold teams to 20 points or less in this league you are simply going to lose most of your games - unless you have a HOF QB.
The Lions most definitely don't have that......

And then he's bragging that his Giants found a way to win and that other clown's Steelers found a way to win. So disingenuous. The Giants won because the Titans went right down the field on them but missed a FG. The Steelers won because the Bengals made a ton of mistakes and then missed an extra point after the Long Snapper got hurt and had a backup TE trying to snap. He snapped it too slow and it got blocked. Neither was anything to brag about.

He will setup the local pro teams and UofM by saying they're so great (pre-games) and how could they ever lose. So if they win, "Oh I told you they would and they should have." If they lose he will bury them. Conversely, with his teams he will talk about them being terrible and they could or should never win. Even in situations where they are obviously the better team. So if they lose? No big woop, I told you. If they win? They're great and exceeded my possibilities. He'll say.

It's very childish and in a way, disrespectful. He thinks the people of Michigan/SE Michigan to be very dumb. We're not. We see what our teams are doing. Most people are busy with their lives to get caught up with some of the stuff and are tuning in to get the summary of things they need to know.

Robert Saleh “taking receipts” on people who continually mock Jets

Those looking for signs of progress from the Jets on Sunday could point to an improved performance from a defense that was ranked 32nd last year, but it’s hard to get too excited about anything else from their 24-9 loss to the Ravens.

The Jets didn’t score a touchdown until the final minute of the game and their offense picked up 195 of their 378 yards from scrimmage once they were already down three scores in the second half. They turned the ball over twice, Greg Zuerlein missed a pair of kicks to spread the troubles to the special teams units as well and reactions from those watching weren’t all that kind to the Jets.

Head coach Robert Saleh addressed some of those reactions at his Monday press conference, particularly ones from those who believe that Saleh’s bid to turn the team’s fortunes are already doomed.

“It’s going to happen,” Saleh said, via Andy Vasquez of NJ.com. “And we’re all taking receipts on all the people who continually mock and say that we ain’t going to do anything. I’m taking receipts and I’m gonna be more than happy to share them with all y’all.”

During an appearance on The Michael Kay Show later in the day, Saleh reiterated that he’s taking receipts and that he can’t wait “to shove it down everyone’s throat when it comes around.”

Sunday’s loss dropped Saleh to 4-14 as the Jets coach and ran their record to 63-115 since they last made the playoffs in 2010, so there’s been plenty of waiting for the Jets to do more than talk about things coming around. People will continue to use the Jets as a punchline unless and until that changes, which makes Saleh’s charge an easy one to figure out and a difficult one to achieve.

                          • Cade York named AFC special teams player of the week

It’s unconventional to select a kicker in the fourth round of the draft.

But Cade York illustrated exactly why Cleveland did it on Sunday, sending a 58-yard field goal through the uprights as time expired to give the Browns a 26-24 victory over the Panthers.

Now the rookie has been named AFC special teams player of the week.

While York’s game-winner was the headline, he nailed all of his attempts in Sunday’s contest. He had earlier field goals of 26, 34, and 36 yards. Plus he hit two extra points and sent five of his seven kickoffs for touchbacks.

After a strong debut, York and the Browns will take on the Jets in Week Two.

                            • Eagles place Derek Barnett on injured reserve, sign Janarius Robinson

The Eagles won’t have defensive end Derek Barnett for the rest of 2022 after he tore his ACL on Sunday.

The team placed him on injured reserve Tuesday.

Barnett was injured in the third quarter, playing 12 defensive snaps and two on special teams without recording any tackles before he went down. He hit free agency in March but returned to the Eagles on a two-year deal.

Josh Sweat, Brandon Graham and Tarron Jackson are the other defensive ends on the Eagles depth chart, and the team added defensive end Janarius Robinson to the room Tuesday. The Eagles signed Robinson off the Vikings’ practice squad.

Minnesota made Robinson a fourth-round pick in 2021, but he has never played a regular-season game.

The Vikings cut him out of the 2022 preseason but re-signed him to the practice squad the next day.

The Eagles and Vikings play on Monday night.

Bills have not punted in three of their last four games, unprecedented in NFL history

The Bills’ offense is doing things that have never been seen before in the NFL.

The Bills didn’t punt in their win over the Rams in the season opener on Thursday, meaning they have now not punted in three of their last four regular-season games. Going back to 1939, which is as far back as accurate punting records exist, no team has ever gone without punting in three out of four games. (It almost certainly never happened before 1939, either, as punts were much more common in the early days of football.)

Buffalo also never punted in its playoff win over New England, and the streak becomes no punts in four of the Bills’ last six games if the playoffs are included.

Since last December, there are only six NFL games in which a team didn’t punt, and the Bills have four of those six games.

Buffalo’s offense ended last season playing at a level few NFL teams have ever reached, and to start this season the Bills picked up right where they left off.
