  • Derek Carr, Davante Adams pre-trade discussions most likely weren’t tampering

The comments made by Raiders receiver Davante Adams regarding his communications with Raiders quarterback Derek Carr before the trade that sent Adams to Las Vegas from Green Bay caused some to wonder whether Carr may have engaged in tampering. He didn’t.

Players can’t tamper, with one specific exception. If Carr engaged in the communications at the direction or behest of the Raiders, he would have become their representative, as that term is used in the tampering policy. Even if that happened (and there’s no reason to think it did in this case), good luck proving it.

Still, it’s clear that Adams and Carr worked together to get together.

“It’s something we didn’t entertain during the season,” Adams told reporters on Tuesday. “Once we wrapped up the season, started communicating a little bit. . . . As things progressed a little bit more, obviously we communicate multiple times a week as it is, aside from even trying to team up. So once we got to a point where it was something that could be realistic now, it’s not just a thought, we started trying to put a little bit of a plan together. And obviously I was still back going back with Green Bay at that point and still weighing my options.”

Even if there was never any effort by the Raiders to commission Carr to lure Adams to Las Vegas (again, good luck proving if there was), Adams’s former quarterback possibly is feeling a little miffed that Adams was working so closely with Carr to leave, instead of working with Aaron Rodgers to stay.

But Adams may have wanted to get away from the year-to-year uncertainty that has invaded Rodgers’s tenure with the Packers. Also, it’s fair to wonder whether Adams has seen enough from Jordan Love in two seasons together to conclude that, whenever Rodgers goes, the passing game in Green Bay won’t be what it’s been.

    • Arthur Smith, Mike Tomlin, Matt Rhule among coaches at Matt Corral’s Pro Day

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin and Panthers head coach Matt Rhule spent Tuesday at Liberty’s Pro Day workout to watch quarterback Malik Willis perform and they were back together again in Oxford, Mississippi on Wednesday.

It was Ole Miss’ Pro Day this time and Matt Corral was the quarterback who was the center of attention. Tomlin and Rhule were not alone when it came to head coaches in attendance this time around, however.

Falcons head coach Arthur Smith and Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy were also there. The Steelers, Panthers, and Falcons are all considered candidates to use early picks on quarterbacks. The Cowboys aren’t in the same group and Ole Miss has other NFL prospects, but the last couple of weeks of player movement show that it’s never a bad idea to have all your bases covered when it comes to knowing about prospects at the position.

ESPN reports 31 teams were represented at the workout. The Rams were the only ones who didn’t send someone to watch.

Corral didn’t work out at the Scouting Combine because of the ankle injury he suffered in the Sugar Bowl, so this was the first chance to watch him do drills this offseason. He threw approximately 67 passes during a 30-minute session.

      • ODELL BECKHAMWR, UNSIGNED FREE AGENT
The Cleveland Plain Dealer's Mary Kay Cabot reports free agent Odell Beckham is "open to the possibility" of returning to the Browns.

With Baker Mayfield on his way out at some point in the near future, OBJ is reportedly open to the idea of going back to Cleveland, as he allegedly loved his teammates -- ones not named Mayfield -- and the fans. Owner Jimmy Haslam also "got close" with OBJ in his time with the team. At this point, it's believed to be a "long shot," but crazier things have happened. The Browns still need a complement to Amari Cooper. OBJ's market should heat up soon, with the Rams still interested in his return, and possibly the Chiefs and Packers with their huge holes at wideout.

        • Holy shit! You mean to tell me he’s not done in court? I hope the Browns knew that

For the second time in two weeks, a grand jury in Texas is going to hear evidence in a case involving Deshaun Watson to determine if the Browns quarterback should be indicted for any crimes relating to the 22 sexual misconduct lawsuits he's facing.
          F#*K OHIO!!!

Or hopefully they have a way out of the trade should this go bad for Watson. Actually I hate the Browns so I hope they get screwed.

He had Adams and didn’t get very far in the playoffs.

damn bro! How can you hate the Browns? They’ve been a losing franchise damn near their entire existence like us. Unless it’s an Ohio thing, then i get it. I don’t like them by any means but I wouldn’t say hate many pro teams besides Dallas, GB, Chicago and Minny.

I used to always root against Denver because I dislike their fan base but I don’t live there anymore so out of site out of mind

To me Hill is a video game character and he’s a little younger than Adams. I’m just glad neither are in GB

I used to be ambivalent about them until their fans were all supportive of their player smashing an opposing player's head with his own helmet that I decided the heck with them.

                          • I think the Browns signing of Watson just reinforces the notion that you don't need to worry about any of the Armageddon signs except the unwritten one - when DET and CLE are scheduled to meet in a SB. Some seriously bad things are going to interrupt that game ever being played.....
