Carson Wentz will play games at Philadelphia, at Indianapolis in 2022

Carson Wentz will play for his third team in three years. He will get to see both of his former teams this season.

A trade agreed upon by the Colts and Commanders on Wednesday will send the quarterback back to the NFC East after one season in the AFC South.

It also will send him back to Philadelphia and Indianapolis in 2022.

The Commanders not only have two games against the Eagles, but they also play the Colts on the road. The NFL will announce the dates of the games later this spring.

Wentz has cost three teams a lot of draft picks for not a lot of production. In 2016, the Eagles traded the No. 8 overall choice, third- and fourth-round choices in 2016 as well as their 2017 first-rounder and a 2018 second-round selection to move up to No. 2 overall to take Wentz.

In 2021, the Eagles traded Wentz for a 2021 third-round choice and a conditional selection that turned into the Colts’ first-rounder because Wentz played 75 percent of Indianapolis’ offensive plays.

Now, the Colts have traded Wentz for Washington’s third-rounders in 2022 and 2023 with the third-rounder next year becoming a second-rounder if Wentz is on the field for 70 percent of the offensive plays. The teams also are swapping second-round choices this year.

Cardinals release Jordan Hicks

The Cardinals have made a few roster moves on Wednesday, including parting ways with one of their veteran defenders.

Arizona announced that the team has released linebacker Jordan Hicks after three years with the franchise.

Hicks was set to count $9.5 million against the cap. His release will give the Cardinals $6.5 million in cap space while costing the club $3 million in dead cap money.

Hicks had requested a trade last offseason following the draft, once Arizona had brought in Zaven Collins. But Hicks remained with the club and started all 17 games, playing 97 percent of the team’s defensive reps. He recorded 116 total tackles with seven tackles for loss, 4.0 sacks, five passes defensed, and a pair of fumble recoveries.

Collins did not miss a game in three seasons with the Cardinals, starting all 49 regular-season contests.

Collins started his career as an Eagles third-round pick back in 2015. He appeared in 43 games with 40 starts for Philadelphia before signing with Arizona in 2019.

Additionally, the Cardinals announced that they’ve tendered exclusive rights free agents Antoine Wesley and Jonathan Ward.

Wesley appeared in 15 games in 2021, catching 19 passes for 208 yards with three touchdowns. Ward has mainly played special teams over the past two years with Arizona, but totaled 67 yards from scrimmage on 12 touches in 2021.

25-year-old woman sues Jerry Jones, alleging that he is her father

A man who lives by the motto that there’s no such thing a bad publicity has some more bad publicity.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones, who largely has managed to avoid widespread scrutiny for a cheerleader voyeurism scandal that resulted in the team finding that no wrongdoing occurred but paying out a $2.4 million settlement, has been sued. The plaintiff, via the Dallas Morning News, is a 25-year-old woman who contend that Jone is her biological father.

The lawsuit was filed six days ago in Dallas County, Texas. Alexandra Davis contends that Jones and her mother had a relationship in the mid-1990s, resulting in her conception. She also claims that Jones and Cynthia Davis reached a settlement that required Jones to financially support the mother and child, in exchange for a promise to not publicly identify Jones as her father.

Alexandra Davis seeks a finding that she’s not legally bound by the agreement, if she were to attempt to prove that Jones is her father. She also wants a declaration from the court that the settlement agreement should be unenforceable under Texas law.

All parties declined comment to the Dallas Morning News.

Alexandra Davis, 25, was born on December 16, 1996. Per the report, genetic testing determined that the husband of Cynthia Davis was not Alexandra’s father.

The situation occurred while Jones owned the Cowboys, but the allegations suggest no violation of league rules or policies. If anything, it becomes a delicate personal matter for Jones, who has been married since 1963.

Former Vikings CB Jeff Gladney has been found not guilty in his domestic violence trial.


Gladney had been charged with "assault by impeding breathing." Gladney's NFL future remains dismal, though he has now been legally cleared by a jury of his peers. It is not impossible to believe that someone will sign the No. 31 overall pick of the 2020 draft to their 90-man offseason roster.

Cousins could do well in Indy. They also said he couldn’t win a playoff game and his first season in Minnesota he did. The team defense has considerably declined since then. Combine that with Zimmer’s conservative nature and the Vikings weren’t going to go very far.

I'm a little disappointed that Chicago was able to get rid of the Mack contract and pick up a 2nd rounder. He's on the decline and Chicago wasn't doing anything in the next few years. Its sad that they wasted that defense the Bears had.

Bears trading pass rusher Khalil Mack to Chargers for multiple draft picks

For the second time in his stellar career, Khalil Mack is on the move.

The Chicago Bears have agreed to trade the star edge rusher to the Los Angeles Chargers in exchange for a 2022 second-round draft pick and a sixth-rounder in 2023, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Thursday.

As part of the deal, Los Angeles is taking on the entirety of Mack's remaining salary: three years, $63.9 million, Rapoport added. It's a relatively small price to pay for a player who played at an elite level in every season except his last, which was marred by a foot injury that ended his year prematurely after just seven games and required surgery.

The salary schedule also fits in with the timeline of quarterback Justin Herbert, who is entering the third year of his rookie contract in 2022 and will have a fifth-year option available to the Chargers, although it's safe to expect Los Angeles to strike a long-term extension with the signal-caller before then.

Simply put, thanks in part to Herbert playing at a high level on a rookie contract, the Chargers can afford this deal.

A four-time All-Pro (three first-team selections, one second-team nod), Mack heads west to a state he once called home during his time with the then-Oakland Raiders, who traded him to Chicago in a blockbuster deal in 2018. Instead of returning to Northern California, Mack will pack his bags for the southern portion of the state to join a Chargers team that narrowly missed the playoffs in 2021 after displaying title-chasing potential. Los Angeles had a glaring need at edge rusher and answered it with this deal, with Mack pairing with Pro Bowl pass rusher Joey Bosa to hunt three star passers in the AFC West: the Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes, the Raiders' Derek Carr and the soon-to-be Denver Bronco, Russell Wilson.

Chicago, meanwhile, recoups some much-needed capital ahead of a draft that will be vitally important to the Bears' future under new general manager Ryan Poles.

The end of the Mack era in Chicago comes with disappointment, as the Bears won an NFC North title in his first season with the club, but never advanced past the wild-card round of the postseason with Mack on the team. Still, the Mack deal was worth it: He racked up 36 sacks in four seasons with the Bears, a span of time that included three Pro Bowl selections, two All-Pro honors and a runner-up finish in Defensive Player of the Year voting in 2018.

After a down year caused by injury, Mack will look to return to the field fully healthy while wearing new colors: powder blue and sunshine gold. The Chargers' faithful will be more than happy to have him as they band together with the hopes of helping their promising team return to the postseason.

Eagles DT Fletcher Cox subject of trade interest

Report: Teams still calling Eagles about Fletcher Cox trade

In the days leading up to the trade deadline last season, there was chatter about trade interest in Eagles defensive tackle Fletcher Cox.

Cox had a rough time finding a comfort zone in defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon’s system, but the Eagles didn’t pull the trigger on a trade and Cox was around to help the team advance to the playoffs with a 6-2 close to the season.

The lack of a deal at the deadline reportedly isn’t keeping teams from checking in to see if the Eagles’ answer might be different in the offseason. Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Eagles are getting calls from other teams about a deal involving Cox.

Cox wound up starting 16 games last season and finished the year with 35 tackles, 3.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery. He added three tackles in the Eagles’ playoff loss to the Buccaneers.

Jeff Gladney’s agents: The NFL needs to take a page from criminal justice system

Cornerback Jeff Gladney was a first-round draft choice of the Vikings in 2020. He played only 16 games before Minnesota cut ties.

The Vikings waived him last summer after he was indicted for assaulting a woman in Dallas, and no other team gave Gladney a chance to play in 2021. On Thursday, Gladney was found not guilty.

Now, he surely will get a chance to resume his career somewhere in 2022.

Gladney’s representation, Brian Overstreet and Rodney Williams of the United Sports Group, released a statement Thursday after the verdict.

“First and foremost, this has had a real impact on Jeff Gladney as a person,” the statement reads. “These situations have very real consequences for the young men involved. This has been a challenging time for Jeff mentally, spiritually and athletically. So, we applaud Jeff for having the courage to stand and fight for his freedom versus these false allegations. We further hope this will encourage other athletes in the future who have been falsely accused, blackmailed or persuaded to provide hush money to make these type of situations go away, to now take a stand and defend themselves as well. As I stated previously at the beginning of this case, we have always believed in Jeff Gladney’s innocence. We sincerely thank and appreciate the jurors of Dallas County for their open minds, service and taking their time to see justice instead of a professional athlete. Unfortunately, Jeff has lost a year of his career. We sincerely hope that the NFL will take a page from the criminal justice system going forward and truly believe these guys are innocent until proven guilty. Today, Jeff is in a good place, and we look forward to engaging with NFL teams about furthering his career at the appropriate time. Out of respect for the process, we will have no further comments at this time.”

Gladney is a free agent who can sign at any time.

Bears cut Tarik Cohen with injury designation

Bears running back Tarik Cohen, whose 2020 season was cut short by a knee injury, is being released.

Cohen is cut with an injury designation, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. That means he is currently not able to pass a physical to sign with another team. If he remains unable to pass a physical, he can get an injury protection payment of $1 million, of which $575,000 would count toward the Bears’ salary cap. If he passes a physical and signs with another team, he won’t get the injury payment.

Cohen was scheduled to count $5.75 million against the Bears’ salary cap this season, but the Bears will save $2.25 million of that by cutting him.

The 26-year-old Cohen has played his entire career with the Bears, who selected him in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL draft. At times he has been a dynamic playmaker with the ball in his hands, but with his knee a major question mark, it’s unclear how soon he could be back on the field, and which teams may be interested in his services.

Bears’ next moves may include cutting Danny Trevathan, trading Eddie Goldman

New Bears General Manager Ryan Poles is not done clearing the roster of expensive players he inherited from former General Manager Ryan Pace.

The next to go could be linebacker Danny Trevathan, who is expected to be released, according to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune.

Cutting Trevathan will leave the Bears with an $8.9 million dead cap charge, but the Bears have likely concluded that the 32-year-old Trevathan simply isn’t going to be a contributor anymore at this point in his career.

The Bears have agreed to trade Khalil Mack to the Chargers in the biggest move of their roster purge, and other moves are likely coming. Another move on the horizon could be trading defensive tackle Eddie Goldman, who has been actively shopped, according to Biggs. And Robert Quinn, Eddie Jackson, Tarik Cohen, Jeremiah Attaochu and Nick Foles are all players who could be on the way out as well. Significant changes are coming in Chicago.
