  • He’s brilliant. Just take a look at the stats this season. He’s been a great player since he came into the league.

He does a lot more than “run around a lot” imo.

    • He's a great player, but his stats this past season were terribly inflated. Houston was down 3 td's almost every week. Team only won 4 games. He wasn't doing enough to win that's for sure.

Still. QB contracts are out of control at the moment and teams regret their decision almost immediately. See Jared Goff. See Carson Wentz.

Bears making another Khalil Mack like deal will just keep them in the same spot they've been for the last 5 years. Capable, but not good.

Agree with above ... Seattle would quickly reload without Wilson and tons of draft capital, but they won't be good in the short term when we need them to kick the Rams ass.

No QB is worth 4 First Rounders - not even the greatest that ever played the game.
They need help - on both sides of the ball.

2 is the absolute max I'd consider. 1 for the player, and 1 additional. After that it's lunacy.

        • Cutler was traded for two 1sts, one 3rd, and Kyle Orton.
Stafford was traded for two 1sts, one 3rd, and Jared Goff. (Note: Granted, it's commonly believed the Lions received the extra 1st because of the Goff contract)

It definitely will cost more to trade for Watson and Wilson.
Could the Deshaun Watson trade be as large as the Herschel Walker trade? IDK, hard to beat a trade involving 8 draft picks ... it does sound like the Carolina Panthers owner is desperate to make a big move though.

I think Dallas is the darkhorse. Jerrah loves him some good pub. Wilson gets major exposure in Dallas as he transitions to a post career. He’s going to be around in the public sphere post NFL.
Meh, the reason they took the ball out of his hands is they continued to let him cook - and he turned the ball over what? 10 times in 3 games - all losses - and all against playoff contenders?
At some point you'd expect the Coaching staff to say - enough is enough.
They won all but 1 of their remaining games after the change......

Only point I'd concede is that when you get to the playoffs - you turn your best players loose. I'll give you that.

Still thinking of that horrible call on Tracey Walker sacking Cousins.

That is the whole jist of the argument.
The Chief Cook and Bottle Washer is in change of the ENTIRE CREW - and he's the sole guy whose responsibility is to make that call.
Not only did the Chief Cook and Bottle Washer not make the call (on a play he's responsible to see in the first place) - he actually allowed the call of another official to override the very thing he's responsible for in the first place.

The NFL officiating with the advent of the "eye in the sky" has turned into a total shit show - because even when it's clear as day they made a mistake - they still don't admit to it.

                • According to the league there was nothing wrong with that call. You can do any type of arrangement but as the league refuses to admit errors nothing will change.

                  • That call was two-fold. The very guy responsible to make the call didn't make it. He deferred to another official - even though he is POSITIONED and RESPONSIBLE to make the call in the first place.

This wasn't some sinister Jedi shit - it was a straight rush, below the pads and the never once looked to get leverage to "plant" the QB.

You'd think a tenured Chief Cook and Bottle Washer would know what Roughing the Passer looks like - i.e. the they are the senior most tenured person on the staff.

This is a total fucking shit-show. What is the point of even having officials if they can't - or won't out of replay fear - make the proper call on the field - as they see it?

I love Fraq's rose-tinted glasses over the game of yesteryear; like referees weren't bungling calls on the regular until replay made them lazy and blind, I guess.

                        • Horrible call but it did us a favour really.

                          • The reason it was easier to officiate roughing back in the day was that they just didn’t call it I most cases. Getting to the QB and knocking him out of the game by crushing him as much as possible was part of the game plan.

IMO, roughing is one of those things like the old take on porn - hard to define but I know it when I see it. But there are so many layers to it now and it has these guys all mixed up. For all we know the league office could be ripping these guys a new one every week for calls they aren’t making and to err on the side of the QB. But the NFL rarely ever admitting a fuck up makes things hard to take seriously.

The other problem is that unintentionally grazing a helmet and accidentally getting blocked into a knee and ragdolling or blasting a guy in the mush carry the same penalty. It would be nice if they could make a distinction, but that would add even more complexity to an already problematic call.

                            • Yeah the Cousins roughing nonsense was nowhere near the top 20 screw job calls the league has made against the Lions but it is one of the most infuriating. The Lions do everything right on a goal line stand and still get jobbed on a perfect sack.

You learned to live with bad calls back in the day as a fan.
Now, you get views from 10 different angles and a review process that is supposed to prevent them - and you STILL see those calls bungled.?
Meanwhile, you've been sitting there for 5 minutes or more waiting on them to make a decision that still make no sense.
