  • I can't believe we have so many grown adult babies in this community. Trump was already president once and literally none of the stuff democrats have been screaming about happened. We had a great economy with no new global conflicts. That is a huge accomplishment. I am looking forward to more of that. Especially after all the Ukraine, Isreal, middle east carnage that has ensued under Biden. Along with record high inflation and cost of living. I will say I have thoroughly enjoyed watching the left absolutely melt down on social media. It has been quite entertaining. I am really looking forward to see what this administration can do. I will also be anxious to see all of you complaining about Trump apologies when things are better here in US 4 years from now.(joking of course as I know nobody will ever apologize or admit their daily life has improved) 😉

Since the Trump first elections and then Covid and then Jan 6th etc etc etc, this forum has lost a lot of very good names due to voicing stuff that can’t ever be debated peacefully.

Now chemiclord is going to come along and bla dee bla dee bla (posting sensible stuff though…… easy there boyo!) ..,….

We need Goff to start sucking or something. FK the lions, its for the good of the forum!!

Every single Republican in my lifetime has crashed the economy, why would I believe the dumbest president in history would be any different. He's already done it once. Not surprised when nobody makes him explain a single detail of policy that they supposedly have. It's almost as if none of their ideas are popular. Shocker.

          • If my 401k goes up in the new Donald Trump economy like it did under Joe Biden, I will give him his flowers. When he was last president he made a daily thing of touting the stock market under his watch. That was his proxy for the economy for him and a lot of his voters. The stock market has been great under Biden, but all of a sudden that wasn't part of the economy. Has anyone ever gone to Costco lately? Since the end of COVID you can barely walk around it with the cart because of the lines of people waiting to spend hundreds of dollars.

If the Democratic party learns anything from Trump, they need to learn how to tout their successes. The Chips act and the IRA did a lot of good but you would never hear about it.

Some of the really good things the Trump administration during that Covid era was the two gigantic spending bills as stimulus. It helped the economy not totally crash but it helped to cause inflation. If you were to listen to the rhetoric it was all the money the Dems were spending. The checks had Trump's name on it! That's some Jiu-Jitsu shit

            • Information without context is often not so valuable. Case in point:

              - Donald Trump took over in the midst of a strong economy, none of the policies he implemented materially changed the direction of the key economic trends. The biggest thing he did was give massive tax cuts to corporations that didn't need it, blowing out the deficit (remember when the GOP cared about that). Pulling the trigger on tax cuts in a strong economy is just a dumb move unless your goal is to put more money into the pockets of the rich.

              - Joe Biden took over in the midst of a global pandemic and had to deal with shockwaves including massive supply chain disruptions. The US was hit for sure, but came through it in way better shape than pretty much every other 1st world country and is trending in the right direction.

Look, I subscribe to the view that there's only so much a president can do, promises to improve the economy don't mean much if you are facing stiff global headwinds. The best you can typically do is try to mitigate the impact and ride things out the other side without a full on recession.

However, a president can fuck things up pretty bad with rash decisions. You know, like massive across the board tariffs and deporting millions of people out of the work force. Did you know that migrant/immigrant labor makes up ~50% of all crop labor in the US?

It can't be debated peacefully because the loony left (basically the majority on this forum) need to resort to invective and name-clling because they are unable to make rational arguments to support their beliefs.

As an example, this whole "Trump is threat to democrcy." nonsense. In March and April of 2020, no one knew much about Covid, but we were told it could kill millions. I remember buying groceries from Walmart, having them put in my trunk, and coming home to have the Mrs. wash the containers with bleach water. Rational people were doing irrational things during this time period. And I'll put it to you simply that if Trump had dicttorial tendencies, he could have declared martial law and become something close to a dictator. Instead, he chose to work within the constitutional republic our Constitution protects. Remember Cuomo demanding 30,000 ventelators? Or turning the Javits Center into the largest unused hospital in the country? Trump respected the governors' perogatives.

Now consider which party allowed kids to go back to school and businesses to stay open. Desantis was the best, but Republicans nationally allowed more freedom to their citizens than Democrats did.

When Biden had the power, he purged the military of soldiers who had wrong political beliefs (by forcing those who refused the shot to by discharged).

                • (Sigh - read this in a metronomic voice) The military has required mandatory vaccinations for decades. The practice dates back centuries to when General George Washington required mandatory inoculations against smallpox. Prior to COVID 19, the military quite uncontroversially required mandatory vaccination for upwards of 15 communicable diseases depending upon where you are deployed. The only reason the C19 vaccine became controversial was because of the amplification of a bunch of conspiracy theories by the right at a time when the virus was blazing a trail through military ranks.

And it’s funny that Operation Warp speed might be the single best accomplishment of the Trump era and he can’t talk about it because his base hates it.

                  • "Trump is not a threat to democracy"

Except when he incited an attempted coup. ( and if you don't think that is what it was you are a naive or intentionally obtuse dumbass)

And now he has the House, the Senate, the Supreme Court and is filling his cabinet with a collection of yes men, lackeys and minor Bond Villains.

There are no guardrails to keep him in check

                    What could go wrong.

You fuckers asked for it. You better own it when it all goes to shit.

                    • Operation Warp Speed was good, I give Trump his flowers for that. His plan for distribution was very flawed, but he wasn't in charge then. Saving people from dying is good. Now we live in this world where people claim that if they didn't use the vaccines and didn't have the lockdowns under Trump that magically the death toll wouldn't have been higher.

Pandemics suck and every one of them is different so there isn't a good plan for any of them. I hope I never see one again.

                      • At any rate, we will see how it goes. Second term presidencies have generally been fraught with danger. Either they become overcome by hubris by alleged mandates (Bush) and that leads to problems in the 6th year midterms. Or you can get boxed in like Obama did. He didn't have either house of Congress so he tried to use the executive branch to do things in immigration that the failed immigration deal was trying to do. I'm a big Obama guy, but that pivot to immigration reform like that in the second term was disastrous politically even if it wasn't felt by him. Obama's first term was pretty harsh on border crossings.

It's too early to tell but by the preliminary numbers on this election it looks like there is a chance that the Harris campaign will be thought of kind of like Kerry's campaign among the political science set. John Kerry outperformed the fundamentals even if it isn't widely known. The fundamentals in this election favored Trump even with all his baggage. In the polls she turned a 4 point Biden deficit into a 1 point lead, looking at the true numbers, the Biden deficit was probably much bigger.

Since I sign paperwork every year and take mandatory training telling me not to speak from any side of who my current or next boss' boss' boss' boss might be, I'll walk the tightrope on this subject. As mentioned, mandatory vaccines are, and have been a part of the Dept of Defense from "pick em up. put em down" day at basic training through your tenth deployment from Mosquito Swampania to Anthraxistan. I happened to be in the Indo-Pacific where Covid measures were implemented heavier and quicker than just about anywhere else on the globe. My experience with vaccinations is that there is much more concern and outright "ain't gonna do it" push back from the warfighters on the anthrax shot (my yellow card shows 7 doses) and some of the meds to counter Malaria (give you dreams that will make you question whether you were a serial killer in a past life). While there were numbers given the finely polished boot for refusing the Covid vaccine, they were on par with the numbers refusing other UCMJ punishable refusals of meds/injections. However, much of this started before Warp Speed and U.S. national storylines and all of the political riff-raff that fueled the "movement". Typically, Covid vax included... soldiers, sailors, airmen, marines, and yeah even coasties, and DoD civilians concerns deal more with not wanting to be guinea pigs at Joint Base Petry Dish. The pushback started because of untested, barely regulated needles full of glob and not really because of a left, right, or chicken wing theory. Though I'm sure it was fueling a fire in the States, I don't think a political agenda was really the culprit for most of the shortened active duty careers. Though I'm sure in many cases it was, I just didn't meet those individuals.

TLDR: I didn't/couldn't say much so don't waste your time reading. I'll go back to my incognito anti-delousing and saltpeter protests.
Where are we going; and what's up with this hand basket?

                          • I appreciate the insight from somebody who's been through it. My post wasn't meant to say that nobody refused vaccines in the military before, just that vaccines as a requirement have been around forever so the people jumping up and down making noise were late to the party by a several decades at least. The armed forces require you to give up a lot of your rights at the door when you sign up. It's nothing new.
