  • 350GT come from the oceans and 250 GT from respiration (decay and all O2 breathings organisms)

And everybody knows that in nature, you often have 5,000 chickens living (and breathing) in a 1,000 square foot area (farm hellhole), and 2,000 heads of cattle living in a 12 acre piece of land. Guess what, a large chunk of the 'natural respiration' numbers you reference is driven up by human farming.

Over the past 500,000,000 yrs BOTH Co2 and temperature have cycled up and down TOGETHER.

Yep, and never before have we seen a spike and constant increase in CO2 like what we have over the last 100 years. And the record high CO2 holds in more heat, more heat results in more CO2 production, and round and round we go. As we have seen, wildfires are way up as a result of current conditions - leading to more CO2 being produced, more dead plant life contributing to that 'decay', more and worse storms resulting in more dead things and more decay, etc. and more dead things in the ocean (along with things killed by our pollution like coral that are dying and can no longer absorb that CO2) also accelerating the process. But sure, just call it 'natural processes'. Venus is an example of where this closed loop cycle can lead to.

so our emissions are only 5% of total emissions.

This is the kind of reasoning that is so rediculous. It is like living in a 100,000 square foot room and thinking 'well I am just going to use this corner of the room as a bathroom. I mean this room is so large, what could I possibly do that could lead to a problem? This will never be polluted, or nasty and dangerous. People can't change something so large, just by existing. We don't need to do anything to try to keep the environment of this room clean. Besides, Mah Freedumb!'.

Over the past 500,000,000 yrs BOTH Co2 and temperature have cycled up and down TOGETHER.

Yep, like you said. CO2 raises temperature. By gumby I think you almost got it.

Conclusion - Temperature is the driver for CO2 in the atmosphere, not the other way around.

    • Finding it a tad hilarious Geezer that you’ve prompted a chat as it was, quote, “dull in here”…… and then subsequently labelled an ignorant slut on the back of the chat.

Seriously dude, talk sports……. Step away from the politics, religion & gender areas. There will be Gifs & Memes aplenty if you don’t……, simply because you seem to be a huge target since litter-tray-gate. The Geezer name ain’t recovering from that.

I understand your training in science is limited, but take the time to look up the amount of co2 in earth's atmosphere and compare it with Venus. You will find that c02 makes up 0.04% of the earth's atmosphere and 96% of Venus' atmosphere. We are not going the way of venus because we don't have anywhere near the amount of co2 venus has.The co2 emissions in the closed system of Earth amount to 800gt yearly. Humans, if you include them with all o2 breathing animals amount to 40+250gt=290gt of that total. Truthfully, I don't know if the author of the letter meant by humans producing 40gt of co2. I do think he meant human activity like autos.

This has nothing to do with the total co2 load in the atmosphere. It does show you are basically a Malthusian.

What the writer is saying is that the co2 load in the atmosphere is around 750gt (JGS makes a good point about this being dynamic). What he is also saying is that as the planet heats, the higher heat causes some of the 30,000gt of co2 in the oceans to be released into the atmosphere, causing a rise in the amount of co2 in the atmosphere. This has been the pattern for 500 million years.

And absolutely the only reason we are talking about this is that we have a new religion now that believes humans can affect the atmosphere by their use of carbon and co2. This belief relies on the "greenhouse effect". Water vapor is the most common greenhouse gas, and it too increases as the earth warms. We can no more control the amount of co2 in the atmosphere than we can control the water vapor. When the earth cools, then greenhouse gases are absorbed by the ocean.

Finally, science is about disagreement and the dialectical method. Science is never "settled". One mark of a theory that is true is that you can make predictions based on the theory. There has never been a correct prediction by any scientist using the computer simulations upon which we are willing and eager to destroy our economy.

Not sure what the first sentence is. I certainly didn't know I "labelled an ignorant slut on the back of the chat". If I did, I owe the slut an apology.

                .

Water vapor, Methane and Carbon dioxide are all greenhouse gases. Can you guess which one doesn't oxidize and can stay in the atmosphere for centuries if produced at a rate greater than the earth can absorb it? Hint, it's Co2. Acting as if they are the same is ridiculous.

Did you miss the grade school science of oxygen and co2? To think humans and other creatures can't have an effect on these levels is astonishingly dumb.

I never said humans cannot affect the climate. I never said humans do not affect climate. What I will say now is that we don't know how much the greenhouse effect comes from co2 in the atmosphere. The majority of the "greenhouse effect" is from water vapor.

I believe the earth heats and cools in cycles. I've lived through global cooling (https://www.wsj.com/articles/notable...ing-1430348637). Now the earth is warming.

We have been measuring atmospheric gases and global temperature since about 1880. Now, where YOU may have forgotten your 4th-grade math, is that this is .00000028 of the time of the earth as we know it (500 million years). So government scientists build models with a sampling size of .00000028 of the whole and pronounce that the global population needs to go to "green energy" which is the least efficient form of energy production. How could anyone doubt this hypothesis? And remember the truth that science is never "settled".

What I know with certainty is that humans are highly adaptive. I have no doubt that we can adapt to a 3-degree temperature increase by 2100. Two inches of rising in the oceans will not bother us. We will adapt. Fracking is an example of adaptation, finding far more energy resources than the "experts" thought was possible.

What you ignore is that true scientific theories can make predictions that come true. Einstein's General Theory predicted certain things a hundred years ago or so and we are now getting proof the GT is right BECAUSE its predictions are right. THERE HAS NEVER BEEN A GLOBAL WARMING PREDICTION BASED ON THE MODELS WE CURRENTLY USE THAT HAS BEEN ACCURATE.

                            https://www.nytimes.com/2016/02/12/s...f%20relativity.

Now, is it prudent to spend $ 3.5 Trillion per year (globally) to move to green energy? They say it will cost 72 Trillion to go 100% green by 2050. Is it worth the disruption to the global political order, and lowering the worldwide standard of living to focus on something we know we can adapt to? People who believe in the "green new deal" should follow the money.

Good to see you accept the truth that Trump did not profit from being President. Go back and look at the unanimity of opinion from all the progs here believing Trump DID profit. Then I presented the ACTUAL FACTS.

Now you are bitching that Trump tried to profit from his Presidency but he had a "lack of ability being a businessman". Listen to yourself. What is absolutely true is that there are only a couple of people here who do not suffer from TDR. Last night I heard that Trump wanted to top off the strategic oil reserve when oil prices collapsed (and at one point were negative) but Chuckie Schumer would have nothing of it. It is hard to make a deal when you fly in the face of the Ds religion.

Whitley, can you please name anything the Ds have done in the last two years that benefits the United States?

I can only say again that as of Feb 5 of this year, Tesla was worth six times the value of GM and Ford combined. Much of this is built on the massive subsidies Tesla received. But, take heart, Biden has made moves to make sure that Tesla does not get more subsidies until it becomes a union shop.
