  • Yeah, there's one little problem with doing them piecemeal. You'll get nothing.

Because of shitty Senate rules, anything that isn't packaged into a Reconciliation bill needs 60 votes (not 50) for cloture. So congratulations, you've wasted a bunch of time and gotten nothing. If performative politics matters to you... fine, I guess, but I doubt the bulk of Americans would pay attention long enough to care.

Yeah, the Democrats could change those rules... but oh, wait. Sinema and Manchin refuse to budge on that too.

    • Yes, but at least to add insult to injury we also get to have lunatics like Cawthorne, Green, and Boebert on the news for the rest of the world to see.

I suppose the core of the problem is that the American people are (as a general cross-section) incurious individualists who don't want to hear they have any obligation to the rest of society and resent anyone who tries to suggest they do. Our government reflects that self-image.

        • The structure in the Congress is wrong. No way should a state with the population of a small city have the same equal representation (Senate) as a state with 100x the population. They, inn 1776, didn't quite imagine what the country would be in 2022.

But this, won't ever be changed. Both parties are dug into this broken system and care only about the power and money. The narratives are there for them to control the populous. How many times have we saw a legislator talk about something not being right and a day or so later they change their whole story?

AND they have broken America with all their crap narratives and have a lot of the population thinking these narratives mean something. Like having a "Right" to say or do whatever, without consequence. Consequence of one's actions, or in-actions (in some cases) is as American as the rights. It what keeps us all honest. Or at least somewhat honest.

People were actually led to believe they had a right to go harm, and probably kill, legislators (including the sitting Vice President) because they lost an election. And the flames of this traitorous mob was flamed by the sitting President.

It's all broken and people don't care. They just want their narratives fulfilled.
Trickalicious - I don't think it is fair that the division rivals get to play the Lions twice. The Lions NEVER get to play the Lions, let alone twice.

Well, LBJ had supermajorities of 68 Senators and 258 Representatives the Congress beginning Jan 3, 1965. And he needed overwhelming support from the Rs to pass the Civil Rights Act.

LBJ was far to the right of either Manchin or Sinema. So was JFK.

                • Marx predicted the fall of Capitalism and the fact it would essentially eat itself. Corruption, greed, etc. I think that's what we're witnessing. Trump was the perfect example of this. The fact he was POTUS is a perfect example of our selfish country. Just a pure conman who came from money and was able to rise to the top all while being a total idiot, corrupt, and zero morals.

The $ keeps rising to the top and 99% of people are getting squeezed and will continue to get squeezed. Not to mention how stupid this country is. Just full of idiots and low skilled workers everywhere. We NEED foreigners to come here, because they are the more skilled and intelligent workers. We're a country in decline and have been for awhile now.

                    • Problem there (and with much of Marx's work) is that humans would sooner embrace fascism rather than communism, and has been demonstrated frequently over the course of history.

To both points, which are close to being the same darn thing, there is a weakness with people that is easily exploitable. Thus you get someone who would sell his soul for what he wants and he gets what he wants. Every time someone calls him on it, he leans heavier on it until they break.

As bad as people like to make manipulators THE issue (I am guilty too), it starts with believing some of this mess. Trump would just be some rich guy talking about he gives people food, and clothes, and cars without the backing. It illuminates people's attitudes.

                        • The weakness is that the average person wants to feel secure, and doesn't want to think about how the sausage is made. They want politics to just work with the barest minimum amount of input on their end. Fascists and authoritarians promise them that. Just choose me to lead you and think about nothing else. I'll keep you safe. I'll keep you secure. Just don't ever question me or what I do.

It's music to their ears, no matter how much of a lie it winds up being; and humans fall for that lie time after time after time.

You also must add the, "they are here to destroy you and I am the only one that can save you. They hate you. I love you. We're the same and they are terrible."

                            That's a staple

                              • I mean, I'd agree, but I've also seen just how low that bar can actually go. He's not one of the worst. He's not even close to the worst.

People like Biden are more replacement level rather than bottom of the barrel. And that's the problem, in all honesty. I wish he was one of the worst.
