The penalty for treason is death in the United States.

So anyone who attacks a sitting President (Yes. That includes Donald J. Trump), a member of Congress or a Supreme Court Judge should face a lifetime in prison or death. Being complicit with trying to overthrow our country, and the political process is the heart of our country and democracy, is an attack on all of us and constitutes treason. Period.

But hey, these are nice folks. It's not like they were trying to illegally sell cigarettes or sitting in their own home. Just go on home.

Actually, the easiest societies to topple are the ones most dedicated to the state. All you need to do is get enough of their quisling politicians on board as satraps - and I guarantee you, 99% of those rats in Washington would sell out everything to get a seat in the power structure - and they'll get the population to buy into your rule with "their" people in "representative" roles.

A stateless society, however, is virtually impossible to overtake. The phase "a gun behind every blade of grass" comes to mind. It would get prohibitively expensive to continually occupy a society where insurrection is the rule, not the exception. Your "rule" would never be legitimate, and every member of your invading force would have a target on their head.

Look at Afghanistan. The Russians went broke trying to take it. And now, the biggest most expansive empire in the history of the world has been there for two decades and continues to lose to a bunch of goat herders.

Fear is what keeps you in line with the state. You've just made it part of your identity, and you won't see it for that very reason. We all seek to protect our identity.

It's most evident when someone talks about what freedom is, and you respond with doomsday scenarios of what it would be to not have rulers.

It was programmed into all of us, from a very young age - myself included.
