  • Is there any way to end this? I mean they really feel the way they do and there is just enough of them to placate this stuff.
Trickalicious - I don't think it is fair that the division rivals get to play the Lions twice. The Lions NEVER get to play the Lions, let alone twice.

    • Probably voter ID and removal of computer software that some people feel can be manipulated after casting a vote.

      • You have a solution to get Voter IDs to everyone, or are you just going to use those laws to disenfranchise entire communities like the GOP has done with those laws?

Reactionaries will NEVER accept losing ever again, no matter how much you cater to them.

Do you figure Michigan used "those laws to disenfranchise entire communities like the GOP has done..."? Michigan requires a photo ID.

This would go a long way toward legitimizing the vote.

In particular, I think voting by mail will always be suspect. There are just too many ways to cheat, and there is no need for it. The country should have a long holiday weekend leading up to election day. Voters could vote in person on Sat, Sun, Mon, and Tues. I'd trust that method.

France still uses paper ballots and counts them individually.

When its coupled with closing and/or reducing hours at locations where you can get an ID, and especially in urban areas? Yes, I do think that is intentionally and maliciously disenfranchising communities.

Did Michigan do that? Not in any particularly blatant fashion that I'm aware of.

This wouldn't work in Scotland. By the Sunday afternoon, everyone would be feckin pished and kicking the shit out of each other.

"Come on, man, tell me who ye voted for?"
                "Naw, fk off"
"Coooome on, tell me, we're pals!"
                "Naw. Get tae fk!"
"Ok, I'll buy the drink for the rest o the day? What de ye say?"
                "Ok then. Ah voted conservative!"
                "You fuckin Tory bstd!"

                • Yeah, it’s not like people are running around claiming Michigan elections were rigged.

                  • But Michigan requires presentation of an ID! That's supposed to mollify the reactionaries! I don't understand why they'd be upset!

Gosh, it's almost like they don't actually care about the rules, and merely scream "fraud!" when they don't win or something!

The idea that urban voters cannot acquire a photo ID, no matter the excuse, is just silly. Anyone can get an ID. To those who claim not to be able to get an ID, I say, "Is that because you are too stupid, or is that because you are too lazy."

I had some experience with real-world ID distribution. In the charter school I ran, we instituted a protocol in which the visitor would enter an alcove and have to show their ID to get into the school. The most often used was a driver's license. The ID was checked against outstanding warrants, and if there were none, a sticker with the visitor's name was printed for them to wear. The sticker had a bar code which was the only way for the visitor to get out. Naturally, we offered to supply IDs for those families that did not have a driver's license. The school had 660 students, so figure about 300 families. Of those families, one needed an ID. One.

This is not a problem. Never has been.

                            • I personally think it's more of an issue of principle. No cost, regardless of how minor should be a barrier to vote. If the government wants to add cost the government has to pay it.

The worst of the voting laws imo are the states that are restricting times and intentionally creating long lines or making those lines unbearable. Further restricting absentee voting only adds to the problem. Voting being an hours long wait absolutely turns away voters and that tends to grow in size as a problem the greater the population of the area.

All of these dumb laws to address a problem that doesn't actually exist. Extremely minimal fraud amplified by astronomical amounts to make it seem like it's a problem that it just isn't.

                              • Election Day should also be a national holiday as well. I’d like to see a candidate run on that as part of their platform.
