It was probably research being carried out with the best intentions as a response to SARs. But it was dangerous research that everyone involved knew was dangerous.

Only the most moronic believe it was man made or released on purpose - but viruses were most certainly being genetically modified to be more virulent in humans - that’s an established fact. They’re just asking you to believe that this has nothing at all to do with that research and it’s just one great big massive co-incidence, and no - you can’t verify it.

There is zero, I repeat zero, evidence that SARS-COV-2 has been modified in any way, and every bit of actual research that tells us it is a 100% natural virus. There's a bunch of circumstantial nonsense about gene sequences that mean less than nothing (when you have billions of viruses throughout our evolutionary history, it's actually not particularly surprising that eventually a novel virus would have... ya know... novel sequences), and a bunch of assertions without anything in the way of evidence other than conspiracy theories that fall apart under the slightest of scrutiny.

If SARS-COV-2 was at all modified to be specifically target human beings, there would be evidence of it, either in its genome (there isn't) or in the trials that researchers inevitably would have run to see exactly what their alterations did. You don't do viral trials on people without someone noticing, or someone who was actually involved cracking and squealing on the project; not even China is that good at suppressing every voice in their country. The fact that we don't even have trolls claiming to have been a part of that scheme just for the 15 minutes of fame that would come with it should tell you how unbelievable that theory is.

Now, none of this precludes the possibility that some researcher or researchers in the Wuhan Institute of Virology underestimating the virulence of a novel virus they found popping up in remote populations, and an asymptomatic carrier taking that virus outside to begin a pandemic. That could have happened! That is a viable theory, though one that isn't terribly supported by the contact tracing that was done in those early days... but hey, it's still possible, mostly because that contact tracing wasn't very complete and has a lot of room for error.

But this idea that somehow China manipulated a virus and it kicked off a pandemic needs to die in a fire.

I said VIRUSES, not COVID 19. We don’t know if it was COVID 19, because they won’t tell anyone what was there. They deleted their database of viruses from the internet in September 2019.

Viruses can be natural in origin but spliced together with other viruses, effectively genetically modifying them. This is also a fact - I posted a clip of the guy who funded the research literally explaining how they did it.

They can also be cultured with human cells giving them a turbocharge of evolution that would never have occurred naturally.

The idea that gain of function research make this so infectious is absolutely viable and doesn’t just happen in China. It started as a process in the US and happens now in various countries with various viruses.

You’re conflating the idea of “man made” like China created some monster virus and used it as a bioweapon and “man meddled” research that we literally know was happening. The NIH have admitted it and that was only the small bit of research they funded. This was 100% happening at the WIV.

Two years later, Daszak and Shi published a paperreporting how the Chinese lab had engineered different versions of WIV1 and tested their infectiousness in human cells.

What needs to die is blindly swallowing a narrative that it came from nature despite there being very little evidence for it other than “well, that’s how other viruses started.”

What might stop it going round in circles is a proper inquiry into the origins that isn’t co-opted by Chinese scientists forcing their party line into the report, run in conjunction with handpicked and compromised external scientists.

Seems the world has given up even trying to find out. IF it did come from a lab, we are now much more vulnerable to another one than we were before.

That the laboratory in Wuhan was making new chimeric viruses for research is a fact, not a matter for debate.
