I see your point there, and I'd think it was neat if I didn't harbor fears of Beeline (easier to spell so can we adopt it?) going midget in a game where 95% of the time going big is the thing to do. But in the context of near years' bigs-heavy and guard-light rotation, I think it's a bad idea. GR3 can post up from the SF position if it's really a strength of his game. Especially if clearing out by sending MMG and Smot out to spot up. Or Morgan if he can come back with a baseline jumper.

Agree about running -- it's tough to score out of your sets in the B1G on a regular basis.

Finally, welcome back to the Sanitystan. We've missed you here.
I haven't changed where I've been coming from. I guess you must've been multi-tasking while reading my posts until now.

We'll need to hash this out over beers and burgers at Frasier's when I come back for a visit.

I am never not multitasking so I don't see why this time would be any different, but I am happy to let you pick up the tab in exchange for some explanation...

You deserve my full attention, but paying and listening would count as multitasking.

In actual news, MICHIGAN will open the preseason NIT with a home game against Oakland u. If they win they will then face the winner of Cleveland State vs. Bowling Green. If they win that game, they advance to Madison Square Garden for the Semi-finals. Other rumored teams include Pittsburgh and Virginia.

Also, Michigan has agreed to a home and home vs. Arizona. That series will begin in the '13-'14 season.

Here's a schedule link:

Smotrycz, Christian and Brundidge have left the program

Beliein:"we never like 2 see players leave the program however (they) have made the decision 2 transfer and continue their careers elsewhere"

WOW. Smot hurts, but maybe that says something about Beilfeldt?

Best of luck to the three of them...

That solves any logjams in the frontcourt. Smot is the only one that surprises me but I really thought he was going to have to do a lot to not lose PT.

Tough way to end his Michigan career. I blocked lay-up and a game-ending turnover down the stretch, after he'd played a good game.

I think he'll make some program happy, maybe closer to home like Boston College?

Both Brundidge and CC can play big roles at a mid-level place, although CC may never be starter material.

We'll see if Carlton lives up to his H.S. ranking somewhere else. It's tough to be an undersized 2 in big time college basketball.

Good luck to them all- I wish them well.

I guess Trey Zeigler could be on the table again. Can he play some PG?

I know this is silly (not a real departure from most of what I do on here) but last night I was projecting minutes for our players next year. I had Smot down to about 15 a game.

If I was anywhere near to being right as what the coaches might be thinkng, I can see why he left. I think he was going to lose all of the minutes he had as a back-up 5 and would at best be a back-up 4 to McGary and maybe get a little time at the 3. Now, he can go somewhere else, have a year to work on his game while sitting out and then start for 2 years somewhere.

If he still has aspirations of being an NBA player, this was the right route to go.

He was Coach Beilein's first Top 60 recruit, I think, so maybe he got the ball rolling in some people's minds.

I'm bummed to see him go as I would've liked to have seen how he handled the challenge of the incoming talent and I liked the improvement I did see out of him. He also seemed like a funny guy from the preseason vids he made and a good teammate.

Again, I wish all of the transfers well. I'll be following them.

The big key to this is whether McGary is a 4 or 5.

Didn't his dad, the coach leave/get fired? I thought if that was the case, a transfer didn't have to wait.

Burke considering the draft? That's not fun to read.

Yeah, I just saw that.

THAT would be devastating to next year's team. I don't think he'll go since he still isn't on any Mock Draft's radar as even a 2nd rounder but I've been surprised before.

I wouldn't guess that means too much about Beilfeldt; more that Smot can see his role greatly diminishing with Horford, McGary, Robinson III and others joining/rejoining the team... Possible but the latter seems more likely...
