Lions bringing in Chester Pitts

Mar153/15/2010 3:35:47 PM | More

Tom Kowalski of Mlive.com reports The Detroit Lions are bringing in veteran guard Chester Pitts for a free agent visit this week.

Pitts, who will be 31 in June, started 114 straight games for the Houston Texans, a span stretching more than seven years. He was one of the league's most consistent performers and made more than $4 million last season. However, Pitts suffered a season-ending knee injury in the second game of the year last season.

if he checks out OK, I'd take him in a heartbeat. He's a quality guard, and they can play well into their 30's.

How do you conclude that? Goz is RT Okung is LT...Williams is 3tech, McCoy is 3 tech.

BTW, it was you that gave me shit for saying a prospect is a "surething"...Now it's ok to say McCoy is beyond a player that led the NFL in sacks for a DT the last time he lined up there?

They will battle for the same poistion on the roster...Thats why Suh gets the nod IMO because Williams is a damn good 3 tech himself(with great size for the position as well).

Too much for hargrove. Our 3rd rd pick is right at the top of the rd. Considering the depth of this draft I think we're better off drafting a player with the pick. Maybe a 4th......maybe, 3rd is too much for him when you take into account the drug concerns.

I dunno......I wonder if we're thinking of talking trade with the saints, no rules against trading for a restricted FA is there? Can we agree on lesser compensation or dump a player on them? cough......avril.....cough.

Spiller is way over rated IMO.

I don't think his quickness and initial burst isn't much better than Ryan Matthews....only with less ability to break tackles. Obviously Matthews doesn't have the top gear Spiller does.....but I really don't see Spiller as super explosive in his first few steps.

The Detroit Lions officially announced the Chris Houston trade today, and they say the details are different than previously reported.

To acquire the cornerback from Atlanta, the Lions say they gave up a sixth-round pick in the 2010 draft and a conditional seventh-round pick in the 2011 draft. The teams did not swap fifth-round picks this year.
The Falcons announced last Monday that the Lions gave up a sixth-round pick and a swap of their fifth-rounders this year.

Much better deal on the Houston trade.

How does this work with the Shaun Hill trade? We had two 7ths next year?

Yes, the Lions had two 7th round picks for 2011....their own, plus one they had acquired from Jets when they traded them QB Kevin O'Connell.

The problem with Matthews is apparently he can't catch. Which is why he might actually be around for the lions 2nd rounder. Not that I advocate getting an RB, but he seems like a good one to me. Pair up with Morris well.

Can't the Lions conceivably negotiate a deal for Hargrove? Offer him a new contract and say a 5th? The impending lifetime ban may drive the price down even more.

The writer who said Mayhew was ringing up some serious long distance bills is a bit out of touch. I pay $79.99 for unlimited long distance, internet and texting. That's only 2 Johnnie Walker Blue's a month for old man Ford.

The only way is to do a sign and trade and NO may just keep him at that point... its why he probably got a 3rd round tender.

Maybe the Saints can be talked into a conditional 4th rounder in 2011 if he keeps his nose clean? Otherwise I don't touch him.

Then they can have him. I think Mayhew's shown how shrewd he is regarding trades. Why blow a 3rd for a guy on the verge of being bounced from the league?

Totally agree with Agile. A high third could be considered too valuable to spend on anything but elite talent, let alone on a substance abuser with no strikes remaining.

Live without him, and draft the clean-slate Suh/McCoy.
