I will use it as a TV eventially. But we have to move our bedroom around and we had other things going on this weekend.

It's the total package - primarily the integration of both the iPod and the itunes software. Although Itunes content is DRM'd there is a workaround - you can burn a cd of the purchased content which strips the DRM and then rip it to .MP3 format at which point you can do anything you want.

The other options - recording, FM tuner, Outlook compatibility are all ancilliary to me, I want the iPod for music storage and playback only. Even with it's video playback capability, the screen size is way too small and the lack of video sales on itunes confirms it......

I can't see how an IPod and all it's proprietary workings can make it appealing enough that you're willing to burn the stuff to a CD then re-encode it to be able to use it the way you'd like to, then you still consider it a great device.

I don't buy that much content from Itunes - I still buy CD's and rip them.

note that DRM isn't just an Apple issue - Microsoft has their own WMA format and others selling audio and video content implement it as well to discourage file sharing......

And BTW, $0.99 is a total rip-off for a song - especially as a flat fee.

The industry has completely eliminated the distribution cost. They no longer have to print and circulate CDs, and they're charging a dollar a song?

                        Now here's something funny:

Hilary Rosen, the former mouthpiece for the RIAA and leader of the fight to control how you are able use the content you buy is upset that she can't put music from other sources on her IPod.

I don't think you could script a better irony.

yes but some players make it a point to be compatable with as much of them as possible.

Futhermore if your going to burn, you are best to rip to wma. since the file size is smaller. I burn most of my music from my own CD's as well. I could and would never use Itunes since most the music they supply sucks ass anywayz.

Also, IPOd screen does suck, but other players screens do not. Creatives is bigger with more color and plays about 5 different video formats.

Also can't believe you would have no use at all for an FM tuner.

As time passes I find myself with less and less need for an fm tuner. I don't know that I've found any interesting music stations for a long time.

Simple bottom line dumbass question: Can I hook the Ipod up to the USB on my computer and download MP3's?
