OK, my old 32 inch Quasar box TV with the state of the art(in 1999) Picture in Picture finally died. It still shows a picture but not really color picture. So I bought this Hisense Roku TV. Man is the picture is sweet on this. Plus with that Roku I get Netflix and all kinds of stuff we didn't have before. It was on sale for 300 bucks, in comparison I bought the old TV for 500 dollars at Costco.

I would still be behind the times if we didn't get a TV as a wedding present. On a side note to that we cut the cable this week and watched the super bowl via over the air and the picture was better than cable, just georgeus.

Not too long ago, I remember seeing that in a couple of years, the majority of TV watching would come from the internet and not cable.

Over the air = antenna, like we used to have on TV's back when we were kids!

I've been considering going to an antenna for TV again. It only makes sense that it's going to be a better picture than cable, because you're getting the full stream.

Cable is compressing the stream to save on bandwidth, and picture is suffering as a result.

No it just comes over the air, you don't need anything other than an antenna. But UKBB is right, the picture was better than any cable or satellite that I've ever seen.

With ROKU or Chromecast you do get stuff from the internet. But it is kind of hit or miss, a very limited Video on Demand.

I have two digital antennas they were giving out for free when they changed from analog.

Only problem is, local broadcasts are limited in number and unwatchable most of the time.

That's what I was using, it depends on the quality ones you bought. I have two direct TVs digital receivers I got when they were giving out those coupons. I also have one other from my inlaws, which was a cheaper brand. The reception on the DirectTV ones were better.

Regardless, if you are using the receiver and piping it into an old box TV, you won't see the picture quality. But if you have an HD TV with the receiver in it, you will get the great picture. We haven't had cable, so I never cut the cord. But there is about 20 channels.

We have a Roku hooked to the TV for Netflix and I built a windows 7 PC for streaming everything else. I bought a little Zotac PC that I hooked up to my office TV that came with Windows 8.1. Really happy with it.

When I got laid off at the beginning of 2011 I dropped cable down to their most basic package which dropped the cost to $23 a month. No sooner than I got it they took away TNT and another channel so I couldn't watch Falling Skies. When I dropped it this week the cost had risen to $39! A hike of $16 in three years and almost doubling the cost. Most of the channels that I got were the same stuff I can get over the air now. If I need it next fall I can get that new over the web sports package (I think Dish is doing this) for $20 a month then drop it after the season ends.
