Yes I've had several of these Bill although I can't recollect any of them at this moment. Things like not seeing/hearing from someone in years then thinking about them one day and receiving a call from them after. Sometimes I'll dream stuff and then see something similar in real life or on TV. I've also thought of people in the news from the past who I haven't heard anything about in years. I'll think about them for whatever reason and sometime shortly after I see them on the news or the internet. Kind of eerie.

Manute Bol may have been 50 when he played in the NBA

www.foxnews.com

*(Bill Polo/Boston Herald, via Associated Press)

Manute Bol could have been the oldest man ever to play in the NBA.

The 7’ 7” shot-blocking phenomenon was brought from the Sudan to the United States by former Cleveland State coach Kevin Mackey in the 1980s. Mackey told the sports site*Zagsblog*that he made up Bol's birthday out of thin air when he got him here.

“I gave him his birthday because they didn’t know how old he was,” Mackey said. “Every athletic door is open at 19, every athletic door is closed when you’re 35. He was probably 40, 50 years old when he was playing in the NBA.”

Mackey, who is now a scout for the Indiana Pacers, brought Bol over in 1985 and came up with a birthday -- Oct. 16, 1962 -- that would make sense for a player looking to play college and then pro ball.

“It was in October, I wanted to make it after September 1,” Mackey said. “I wanted to make sure he was young enough because he didn’t have an age.*I think he was [in his 40s], I really do. But there’s no way of ever really knowing.”

“Every athletic door is open at 19, every athletic door is closed when you’re 35"

- Kevin Mackey

“[Bol] had no idea of his age and the kid who came over with him didn’t know how old he was,” Mackey added. “No one knew how old he was.”

Bol didn’t end up playing for Cleveland State because he struggled learning English. Instead he wound up playing a year for the University of Bridgeport and was drafted by the Washington Bullets.

Bol played in the NBA from 1985-1995 and died in 2010 of kidney failure and complications from Stevens-Johnson syndrome, a severe skin reaction. He was the tallest player in NBA history, and the only player to record more blocks than points over the course of his career.

His son, Bol Bol, is a star 7’1” center in high school who recently chose to play college basketball at the University*of Oregon, and is expected to be a high first round pick when he declares for the NBA draft.

Yesterday we got our first dusting of snow.

It continued through today and caused a lot of fender benders on the freeways this morning even though traffic was light.

I wonder how long it will take some jerk to lose control of their vehicle along the stretch of road with newly planted trees? It would be fatal to the new tree but if the old one was still there, I would put my money on the tree.

These were just planted and need a few years to establish themselves.
