For all of the hand-wringing about "liking Jimmy", Caldwell was given a one-year extension. None of that is typical Ford ownership. If she really "liked Jimmy" as much as you all think, he would have gotten a Millen-esque extension. That move was pretty damn brilliant and gave him a one year, prove it to me evaluation after he made the playoffs 2 out of 3 years. He failed.

Now, if Caldwell stays, I'm right with you. But up to this point, everything has been handled the right way. I have a feeling if Bill Ford Jr. was making these decisions, there would be more of a wait-and-see attitude in here.
Does a 63 year old head coach really need a 1 year prove it to me evaluation? He is who he is. Now if you were talking about someone Cooter's age - sure.

Yes. He took the team to "get into the playoffs" mediocre. You give him a year to see if he can improve to winning the division and winning a playoff game. He didn't, so he's out.

I also think there's some benefit to Quinn assessing the personnel without a coaching change -- fewer variables involved. Quinn has been put in the most ideal situation to succeed and, once Caldwell is gone, is now out of excuses.

Pretty sure the schedule has more influence on their "get into the playoffs" mediocrity than Caldwell has. They still have as much of a chance of beating a team with a winning record as I do slam dunking a basketball on a regulation height rim. Sure, I can do it but I need help in the form of a trampoline - they need help with other teams losing their starting QB's.

I highly doubt it. It also means you're either not smart and/or desperate because you took the job in the first place.
Quinn was well regarded in the NFL and not desperate.

This. Bob Quinn wasn't really on anyone's radar at the time the Lions came calling. He saw the opportunity to jump into a very exclusive seat, and was willing to be saddled with a pre-selected coach in order to do it. Any self-respecting GM worth his salt would (and did) tell the Lions, "No thanks."

I don't think that's true. Wasn't he recommended by the NFL as a candidate?

No. As far as I am aware, Martha rejected the NFL's overtures just like her husband did when he promoted Mayhew.

Quinn was suggested by Ernie Accorsi, who had been hired on as a consultant. Until that moment, I don't recall ANY indication that Quinn was being considered for ANY General Manager position.

Ernie Accorsi being the Lion consultant was the exact result of the Lion organization accepting the NFL overtures.

Quinn wasn't a nobody, he has been good but he needs to improve the team, it is hard to see it with Caldwell though.

He's signed a bunch of players who have laid flat in big games and apparently needs a coach to pump them up to get ready for said big games - and he's done a good job?

I think my take on the Pete Carroll post has been taken differently then My intent.

People on this forum took it like it was a motivational point. I posted as it was a coach who challenges his players to play against an opponent that is in the way of of something they want.

Both Caldwell and Stafford talk and act like their afraid to accept success and winning. Their like social justice warriors.

Don't want to disrespect the opponent, don't want to say hey we want to be Champions, even if it means beating the shit out of you because it's what we need to do to get there.

I want guys that aren't afraid to be the best and want to WIN.

Stop this nonsense of press conferences after losses with the lame, "um, they competed, that's an NFL team there, they get paid too, bullshit excuses.
