I had friend die in funeral procession of all things. He was retired fire department riding as motorcade escort. Guy in procession for some reason got out of like and cut him off. He landed on head and broke spinal cord. He was a very good man.

That is absolutely terrible. That is such a completely sad thing it is hard to hear.

My parents witnessed a late night motorcycle accident when I was a kid, a hit and run. Helmet on, but it didn't matter. Spine through the brain.

My cycle is still sitting waiting for a restoration (17 years at least now). Maybe those stories are why I am spending all my time working on cars lately.

Just to follow up about my friend Rick.

Rick had just got the bike back from a long repair. Rick was an experienced and safe rider. Some of his friends thought that him just getting the bike back may have prevented him mentally, if he had time, to lay the bike down and sacrifice the bike.

Of course we'll never know, if it affected the outcome of the accident.

Sorry to hear about Rick, Wcfwtf.

Obviously not good to tar all with same brush, because there will be the decent and safe riders, as no doubt Rick was. (RIP)

Must say though, in my experience in the UK, (driving since 87) I can probably count on one hand the amount of times I have seen motorcyclists using the road whilst abiding by the rules. Most of them are "bellends", travelling in excess of 100mph, using inside lanes for overtaking etc etc.

Was in Berwick Upon Tweed a few weeks back, and was on a dual carriageway part of the A1 en route back to Edinburgh. In the van, overtaking an Eddie Stobart container truck on a TWO LANE carriageway and a fucking bellend hells Angel decides to overtake ME whislt overtaking the truck??! There must've only been a few feet between me and kerb and he flew past easily 90+ mph. I fkn shat ma y fronts. Nearly swerved into the truck.

Also had a buddy from school who was killed at 22 years old on his bike. Great guy, very well liked, but my God, he was an asshole on that motorbike.

Dpatnod. Did they ever track down the culprit who killed the person in the accident your mum and dad witnessed?

Yes they did. That is why I remember it. My parents had to go to court because they were the only witnesses. It happened late at night, and the hit and run driver was just barely out of high school.

A bit more relaxed now. Couldn't get feckin parked earlier, then I saw a space, but 45 thousand tourists, (Americans included......, tartan hats etc......, you can't fucking hide!) decided to cross the street in front of me, and some other driver got the space. Can't do jobs in Edinburgh through August. It's pointless. Wall to wall people walking about like Shakespeare plays.
