      Bravo! Well done!
I long for a Lions team that is consistently competitive.

        • Hi everyone, I'm an Aussie born and bred Lions fan. My wife and I just got married and we are planning our honeymoon to the US. Our first stop plans to be Detroit for the Thanksgiving game this year. I need some help with your local knowledge and some tips on where to stay, how to get around etc.
Will tickets be easily accessible for this game? Is it best to go through StubHub? I'm also hoping to go to a Wolverines game as well. I've noticed that they play Ohio State the following Saturday. What is the best way to get there? Bus/train? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome AustralianLion, mass transit is pretty much non-existent here. I'm seeing a lot of Uber and Lyft cars around but I have no idea how much they charge. Both games you have targeted are going to be tough to get tickets for StubHub is probably your best bet. Not sure if it is implemented yet but sports venues are switching to your tickets being on your phone only (no hard copy) so you will need a smartphone

              • There's not much around the airport, if you want the Detroit experience I recommend staying in Detroit (greektown or downtown). There's a number of new boutique hotels that have opened up, Shinola and Detroit Foundation Hotel to name a few. And of course there are major brand hotels too. You won't need a car to get around detroit, why pubic translation isn't plentiful it is sufficient, plus recommend downloading the Uber app. you'll need to rent a car to go to ann arbor.

                • Awesome. Thanks DWT1. Is it safe around Downtown and Greektown? In particular at night as we like to eat out. Is public transport an issue safety-wise?

                    Congratulations on the marriage.

Do you hate her already to take her to Detroit? Michigan, yes, Detroit why? To get her kilt?

First stop, gun show, next stop, doesn't matter after the gun show.

Btw, I'm not from Michigan. ;) I'm sure the locals will chime in some more .

Your honeymoon trip sounds just like another poster (OZ) that came from Australia. Started trip in NY and ended out here in the West. He rarely posts here anymore after about 10+ years.

After all, it's the Lions. (yawn)

                    Welcome aboard?

                    • If I was you, just skip Detroit all together :-)

You can Uber or Lyft to and from and around Ann Arbor if you don't want to rent a car. Just make sure you bundle up "in layers" for the Michigan game. Its going to be very cold and windy, no idiotic dome. You have to be prepared!

But it will be the best game day experience you will ever have.

                        • Detroit safe? That's debatable - there definitely areas you don't want to be at night. But for the most part if you stay downtown near greektown and the sports venues you'll be okay. There's good restaurants and night spots.

                          • You should be extra vigilant of the Brush Street gang. They will take you for all you are worth. Even worse, they will slowly suck the life from you year after year. It's easy to see them though. Just look for a bunch of yes men in suits surrounding a blue-haired crypt keeper with giant sunglasses. You should be able to smell the bologna from Greektown.
Where are we going; and what's up with this hand basket?

                              • Welcome Australian Lion!

Congratulations on your upcoming marriage but, your bride might well question your logic on honeymoon stops.

                                I am a lifelong local.

I would suggest staying downtown for the Lions game then a B&B in Ypsilanti or Ann Arbor for the Michigan game if you are going to attend that one also.

Thanksgiving day tickets are always a premium and that includes the scalpers on the streets until about 5 minutes after the game starts then the scalpers will play let's make a deal. If you are going through the expense of flying in and getting accomodations, I would suggest purchasing the tickets ahead of time (the beginning of training camp is when I would start checking them out).

Downtown has your choice of 3 Casinos and several 4 and 5 star properties.

The metro area has a plithoria of things to see and do so you might want to go somewhere other than downtown a day or so after the game.

As mentioned, since we are the "Motor Capitol of the World" Mass transit has not been something that has been embraced or developed. There are busses but, the service is not reliable. Uber and Lyft would be your friend.

I can also tell you the Ohio State game will be at a premium and you should find them online and early.

If you have any other questions, chime in and, glad to see you onboard.
